When travelling with your pet, did you know that a health certificate
is required for all pets that cross
a state line? Airlines typically require health certificates as well prior to
any pet flying. We offer health certificates for established patients,
regardless of the species. Before your appointment, we strongly advise visiting
the USDA APHIS Pet Travel website to get more information on what is required
for your pet to enter the state. If your pet is not listed on the website,
contacting the state veterinarian for the state you intend to travel to learn
the specific requirements for your pet to enter the state.
The requirements to get your pet into a state can change quickly and as such it
is your responsibility to find out the current requirements. This can include
getting your pet examined in a certain time frame and/or getting specific laboratory
testing. It is important to note that the turnaround time for tests can range
from a couple of days to a couple of months, so make sure to plan accordingly.
It is also important to note that not all breeds and species are allowed to be
imported into different states and countries. We understand that emergencies
happen, however it is important to know that tests cannot always be completed
in time for travel requirements, so it is important to always have a backup
plan.
Please note that international travel requirements, for companion animals and
for exotic animals, can be especially complicated and typically takes months of
planning to make sure that all requirements are met in a timely fashion.
International travel can also require extended quarantine periods with strict
guidelines. If you have any questions, please contact us before your scheduled
appointment for a health certificate. There is a charge for the examination,
any required tests, and for the health certificate itself. For international
travel, travel to Hawaii or exotic pet travel, please note that there is an
additional consultation charge.
